If you die today

I’ll start tomorrow… during the holidays, whenever I have more free time… after Christmas… in a few months when the workload is less, then for sure…

How many goals? How many dreams? How many ideas would die today with you without even trying to make them a reality? What life that you would like to live, would become a whisper, so low, that no one could ever even hear it?

Your happiness is your key to an extraordinary life. If today was your last living day, would you look back and say “I did all I could to live a truly, 100% happy life?”? Would you say “at least a tried”?

We procrastinate with our dreams and ideas, we leave them for some other moment. And instead we focus on professional goals, sometimes even slaughtering everything that really matters to us, just for a job that we don’t even like (our’s or someone else’s).

Well, you have to understand that it is not easy. I don’t have the time. I don’t have the money. I don’t have the resources. Right now it is impossible. Of course I am going to do it, is just that this is not the right moment.

I know, I have been there. I have gone through all of those stages. I have fooled myself with the hope that one of those answers convinced me. But in the end, I was always unsatisfied with them. I kept wanting something else, I kept feeling the burning flame inside screaming “you can’t wait anymore” “the years are going by”.

The truth is, we find ourselves in a comfort zone of the known. And even though sometimes it feels unsatisfying, or we might complain, it is the one we understand. And sometimes it pays well enough to buy our silence. Sometimes we make ourselves believe that we have no other option. Whatever reason it might be, it makes you feel safe to stay there, to not try to move forward. There is no risk there, or at least you believe so. The only risk you take by staying still is to not live the life that you want. But you don’t give it too much thought, because who has time to think of that every day and there are plenty of things from your actual life that you enjoy. I mean, it is a good life and is the one you were given, and it could be worse. Plus you prefer to be realistic.

But somehow, you always go back and find yourself day dreaming about those ideas that you would love to make into a reality, and all of those things that you will do one day, or that hopefully will happen to you.

The truth is that if today was your last living day, and you had a minute to think before the moment comes, it is very possible that you would feel regrets for not trying to do or achieve those dreams that you knew you were capable of doing, but didn’t.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not telling you to drop all and redirect your full time to your dreams, whatever they might be. We all have obligations. We all have our reality. But you also have the ability to make extraordinary things. And you must find the time do them. You might have to sleep an hour less, watch less tv, maybe spend less time on Facebook or instant messenger apps. Or, if you work 13 hours a day, maybe you need to dedicate one of them to your dreams, and not to someone else’s dream.

The late Chet Holmes, a great Sales Master, excellent author and speaker, was already very successful with his business. But he tells the story of how for many years people would ask him to write a book, and he wanted to, but he was always too busy. Finally, one day he decided that for one hour a day he would close all his email accounts, no phones, no interruptions, and just dedicate time to write the book. Around a year later he had The Ultimate Sales Machine, which was published a few months later, and went on to be a bestseller. This had a huge impact on his business and prestige, propelling him and his company to the next level.

Not every change requires an absolute dedication. What they do require is your will, planning, an internal commitment, and that whatever time you put into it must have your complete dedication.

You must start today. Today you must take the first step towards that life that you want. Tomorrow another step. It is not necessary to walk all the way in one day; you can go step by step, but you must take one step every day.

Do you want a change in your life? Do you want to make a dream or an idea happen? Then every day you must do something that gets you closer to that goal. Regardless of whether it is small or big, do something, you must act on your dreams and goals every single day.
