Realism the new disease

“You have to be more realistic”… Makes me shiver, gives me the heebie jeebies.

Seriously, why would you want to be realistic? What’s fun is on that?

Well, let’s answer the first question:

  • So that you don’t get disappointed when that goal you want doesn’t happen… Right because, you won’t be disappointed if it never happens because you didn’t try.
  • So that you focus on what is important… as if your dreams were not.
  • So that you can really achieve something in life… other than my “unrealistic” dreams right?
  • Because what you want is just reserved for special people… Oh! Gee, thank you for that unnecessary insult.
  • Because what you want is too difficult!… Oh, that sounds like a good principle to live by.

Ok, you get the point of why should we be realistic (there is sarcasm in my tone if you haven’t notice). And to the question -What is fun about being realistic?-, there is one simple answer:

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!

Don’t kid yourself, don’t make excuses, life is too short to be realistic, to not try to fulfill YOUR dreams. The dreamers are those who fallow their dream. It might be small or big; it could be to go to college or become a billionaire; it might be to own a house or a mansion; to work as a waiter in a bar on the beach or to become a Hollywood actor. It doesn’t matter how big or small it might seem, all dreams are big and important if they fulfill the life of the person that aspires for them to become true. What matters of a dream, is that it is yours and that it gets you closer to the way you want to live your life.

The unrealistic, the dreamers, are the ones who change the world, who achieve great happiness in personal and professional live.

Have you ever met someone who is living an extraordinary life? Have you ever met someone who has achieved more than most of the people, have you met a famous actor, athlete, entrepreneur, a self-made multimillionaire, or a man that in the eyes of society has failed, but he always radiates happiness, and people wonder how can he be so happy with all that he is going thru? If you know any of this people, and you ask them if they consider their self’s a realistic person or a dreamer, the big majority of them will answer the latter. As that quality, most likely was an important part of their achievements.

Also, isn’t more difficult to live a life in which you have a dream but you decide to not pursuit, and every day you wonder “what if”, than a life where you at are trying and have where at least you have a shoot to live the way you would want your life to be.

When you die, would you want your children to say “I am sorry for him, he never try to live his dreams”, or something like “Makes me sad to think that she had all this dreams, but she was always too busy to try to live them”…

In life we meet many people that, intended or not, will try to chain our dreams and expectations, those who are so afraid of falling that they never fly, those who let their fear of failure leash their potential to the ground. Their fear is so extended in them, that they will try to infect you with their disease “the realism”, they will want you or your children to lower your expectations for life, no matter how hard or easy, common or uncommon they might be. And they make it look like realism is a good thing, they have elaborated such a compelling argument that sometimes they make it sound like if not following your dreams is the safest bet for your life… As in if you die and you never tried to pursuit your dreams was a great decision that for sure you won’t regret when you are taking your final breaths.

Life is too short for not believing in yourself, for not trying to live YOUR life. And if you ever try to fulfill your dreams, you will discover that the journey might be just as enjoyable as the destination.

Please, don’t let yourself be infected with this disease, and most importantly, don’t infect others and don’t infect kids with this ideas.
